How To Check For Termites

Termites will eat up your home without you even knowing it until you put your foot through the floor or your arm through a wall.  This article will help you on how to check for and get rid of termites.  You need to first understand how termites work and what habits they have.  Termites stay underground until spring time when they will grow wings, pair off and find a new home to establish.  If you find these winged termites or piles of wings in or around your home then you will likely have termites.

There are only a few ways to confirm a termite presence in your home. Inspecting the bases of your home’s foundation and any wooden structures they will eat away, start at the base of the wooden structures on top of your foundation.  While checking the foundation you also should check for any mud structures or tubes.  Termites do not like exposure to the weather or outdoor environments so they will always dwell in the soil whenever they can.

When they want to move from the ground to the wooden structures in your home they will build mud structures and tubes for them to move from back and forth.  They need to move back and forth so that they can renew the moisture in their bodies. This is a critical weakness among termites.  They need to go into the soil so that they can retain moisture in their bodies.  By treating the soil you will effectively treat / immunize your home against termites for about five to ten years depending on the product you use.  Termidor will protect your home for about ten years if you follow the directions and use it correctly.

It is recommended that you use a trenching shovel as opposed to any normal shovel; it will work better and make the work pass by faster.  You may want to have some help because treating your whole home with the trench method is laborious for just one person to pursue.  You will also need to pay close attention to other spots like any concrete slabs around your home.  The soil under these slabs will also have to be treated.  If you leave an area of soil untreated next to your home then the termites will be able to go through this ‘hole’ and continue to eat your home.

Normally with older homes the concrete slab will have moved away from your home about an inch (this is particularly telling with driveways and patio slabs).  When there is a gap like this then you don’t have to drill through the concrete to reach the soil, the gap will act as a trench for the treatment.

If your home has been infested with termites and you would like to know where you can buy the pest control supplies to get rid of them.

HUD Requirements for A Reverse Mortgage

Reverse mortgages have been around for quite some time in the United States. The loan itself however is not available to all homeowners. There are certain HUD (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development) requirements for qualifying for a reverse mortgage. The first is that you must be at least 62 years old, meaning that this type of loan is only for seniors. Second, the homeowner must participate in a counseling session with an approved nonprofit counseling agency. This credit counseling class is designed educate the homeowner about the terms and conditions of the loan. Third, they must have positive equity in your home, meaning that they cannot owe more money on the home than it is worth. Finally any existing liens on the home, for example a HELOC or home equity loan, will have to be paid in full at the closing of the new loan.

All reverse mortgage loans are federally insured, and the federal regulations require that you complete a reverse mortgage counseling course from a government approved agency.

    What is a Reverse Mortgage

A reverse mortgage or Home Equity Conversion Mortgage allows seniors in the U.S. to turn their home’s equity into cash that is available for their discretion. However with a reverse mortgage debt actually increases over time instead of decreasing like a normal home loan. One of the benefits of this type of loan is that there are no monthly payments required and nothing has to be paid back until you sell the home, die, or no longer use it as your principal residence.

You cannot be out of your home for more than 364 consecutive days otherwise you will violate the terms of the loan. Also, you need to continue paying property tax every year. If you do those two things and keep your home well maintained you'll be able to live in your home with no payments. In a reverse mortgage you can take your loan in monthly payments, as a line of credit, or in a lump sum.

    Reverse Mortgage Counseling

Similar to bankruptcy counseling which is required before a debtor may file, with a reverse mortgage a person will need to complete a reverse mortgage counseling course before they can qualify. Government approved courses are provided where you work one-on-one with a trained counselor who will help you understand a reverse mortgage and how it can affect you. They will assess your situation and go over all of your financial options with you.

In a reverse mortgage counseling class you will also discuss several payment options. The counselor will go over the financial and tax implications with you, and as well explain the interest rates and costs in great detail. Once the counseling course has been completed you will be issued the certificate of completion that needs to be filed with your lender at closing. Most government approved nonprofit agencies that offer credit counseling will also offer the reverse mortgage counseling that you need in order to qualify for your reverse mortgage.

A Few Tell-tale Signs it's Time for a New Roof

When you have a damaged roof it's important to not put the repairs off for a very long time. It can be quite dangerous to have a weak or rotting roof that could fall apart any day, and depending on the material can happen more frequently than you might think. Luckily, there are a few tell tale signs that can tell you when exactly you need to get off the couch and fix the roof. Choosing the correct roofing company to perform the roof repair is an important decision. These signs are easy to see and easy to check, so you should make sure to check these signs as soon as possible.

The first tell tale sign is that you've got ceiling spots, which are simple water stains. They are persistent small stains that are caused from a roof leaking. This can grow into a much worst issue if it isn't patched quickly. Roof repair is an important step in maintaining the home and should be taken seriously.

Another sign to call a roofing company is when your roof begins to buckle, if certain parts of your roofs shingles look like they are folding up on the edges then your roof is most likely buckling, this can happen over time or sometimes is due to faulty installation. Roof repair is necessary immediately if a roof is buckling, and sadly it is not a minor repair job.

If your roof is rotting, it is important to fix immediately as well, as the reliability of the roof is compromised to a very serious degree, however often home owner's misty algae for roof rot and panic. If you have simply algae on your roof, there is no need to contact a roofing company at all; however, if it is roof rot, you will usually have to replace the entire roof.

If the roof has leaks and blistering it is important to contact roofing experts, sometimes blistering can be a quick fix but if it is coupled with leaks, the roof can be a hassle to fix, often they'll simply recommend a new roof altogether. This is why it is important to commit to a roof company and get your roof repair on its way as soon as possible.

Safety is no small comfort when you are a homeowner, and a roof caving in on you can be a real nightmare, so be sure to contact a professional when you see any of these signs, and keep your home in tip top condition. It might cost you a lot depending on your situation, but the comfort that can come from a repaired roof, is one that exceeds any monetary amount.

The only thing we have to Fear is… Fear itself

Phobias, they are all around us. Have you ever wondered how you got that fear of heights? Or why you despise speaking in public? You too can learn how fear works, and how to control your fears as well.

First, we must assess fear on a biological aspect. Fear is a fight-or-flight response mechanism that has been bred into humanity from our dawn. We have fear in order for our minds to quickly assess a potentially dangerous situation and to react promptly. This mechanism has aided in running, adrenaline production, and self-defense.

Today, fear is practically useless in developed societies. We as Americans fear far too much. We make fears out of things like doors, windows, telephones, memories, heights, and the like-wise. How can we help tame those beastly monstrosities our minds have cooked up, known as fears?

Since fear has been integrated into our genetics for a long time, there is no true way to remove fear; only ways to control it. The first and foremost way to control your fears is by acknowledgement. If you accept you are fearful of something, no matter how ridiculous, then the true-process of healing can begin.

Ok, so you’ve accepted and acknowledged you’ve had this fear. Simple enough, but now you must move on to step two: Assessment, how did you get this fear? Why did you get this fear? If you can give yourself a better understanding of your fear, it will help you, in the long run, to not only overcome, but surpass your fear.
After this, you must move head on into tackling your fear. Many a person would much rather be anywhere than in the presence of their fears. If you put yourself around what is scaring you, for instance a public speaking class, you will become calmer and more eased around your fear. Who knows, it may even turn out that you enjoy what you feared!

Rinse and repeat! If you only face your fear once, it will not accomplish anything. All that will do for you is a quick, painful experience that you want to end fast. Repetition is a vital component to conquering your fears. Without it, you will simply slide back into a possibly debilitating mentality.

Finally; after you have become comfortable with your fear and have defeated it by being around it so much, it may no longer seem as a fear. You still may not enjoy it, and you don’t. The purpose of fear again is a safety mechanism, and sometimes it truly is better not to accomplish your fear. Just remember, as Franklin Roosevelt once said, “The only thing we have to fear – Is fear itself.”

After all is said and done, enjoy your new life! Go out and do the things you couldn’t before. Deliver that great speech to your boss or class. Ride that rollercoaster. Ask that significant other out! Fear can’t harm you, but missed opportunities can.

    Procrastination Across the Nation

In any given moment, one in every four American is procrastinating. Whether it is on a job, on school, or on tackling that mountain of dishes; procrastination’s negatives far outweigh its temporary-at-best “benefits”. In case you are one of those one-in-four Americans, we have seven awesome tips for you!

    1.     Bite off what you can chew: Too often people will take their problems or what they need to do and make a mountain out of a mole hill. Or a series of mole hills at least. If you can convince yourself that whatever it is your putting off is just a bunch of simple and small tasks, you will be far better off and on your way to freedom from procrastination.

    2.     Hardest first: If you complete your hardest tasks first, you will spend the rest of the time finishing off your lesser tasks with ease. This will also give you a lot of relief and free your mind from constantly worrying about that “last big thing” that needs doing.

    3.     Fuel up: If you are fully fed, hydrated, and rested, it will be easier to take your actions on. This doesn’t mean go off and sleep when you should be doing your tasks! What you should instead do is prepare before hand when you know you have a big day ahead and need to be rest and well-prepared for the vigorous, or not-so-vigorous, tasks soon to be upon you.

    4.     Take the first step: If you have to do a series off steps to complete a specific task, take the first step. Humans tend to want to finish things they start; we see it in arguments and politics all the time right? So if you take the initiative to start your big task, you will be more motivated and the momentum will gradually build for you to finish it off and finally be able to relax without worry!

    5.     Positive thinking: This may sound all too cliché, but positive thinking can really set the mood and get your body rolling. If you can make yourself believe you can accomplish a task, even if it’s extremely difficult, you can be surprised at what you can accomplish. Just keep telling yourself “I can do this!”

    6.     Music: If you are going to do something where music is an option, play it! Nothing can motivate someone to move about and do something more than music. If you are cleaning, listen to some up-beat dance, or pop, and clean in beat to the music. Before you know it you will find yourself racing songs to finish a task before the song ends!

    7.     Deadlines: Set yourself realistic and early deadlines. If you can convince yourself that something needs to be done by a certain time you can be more motivated to do it. Although this may not work for everyone, it works well with the more-organized people in America. Deadlines are an effective way of forcing oneself to complete a job.
Bonus tip: Love what you do, if you can find enjoyment and think about the rewards of what you are doing you will be more motivated to complete it. Think about that sweet wad of cash you’ll get in your next paycheck, or think about how your parents will adore you for cleaning up the house! Rewards are always the biggest motivators, especially to us Americans!

Sleep is greatly affected by the beds and mattresses that you choose. While we all have our preferences, a quality piece is a must. Finding that quality is easy when you know how to do it.

    The Many Faces Of Beds

The choices of beds available may seem overwhelming. There are leather, wooden, adjustable-the list doesn't stop! Then there are the choices of mattresses.

Divan beds are a popular style in the U.K. The majority of U.K.residents choose this style for their home. It is a style similar to a sofabed.

There is no headboard included with a Divan. A headboard can be purchased separate if you wish. No headboard is one of the reasons the style is so hot!

What Mattresses Can Do For You

As stated above, your bed affects your sleep. More importantly, the mattress matters the most. This is what your body will be in contact with.

Choosing your mattress wisely is critical. There are several types of mattresses available. Each offers its own set of pros and cons.

Firm mattresses are ideal for most people. A firm piece can alleviate aches and pains and more. But it is possible to get one that is to firm.

    Popular Choices For You All

Pillow tops and memory foam are very popular. They can be a bit more expensive than a standard piece. But its a difference you'll notice every time you lay down.

You want something that's going to last for several years. The ideal lifetime of your purchase is 7 to 10 years. But don't expect it to last much longer.

How To Find A Great New Bedroom

One of the best ways to find your furniture is online. More and more shoppers turn to the world wide web. This is because of the great selection and prices.

Shopping online is often much cheaper, too. You can find special sale items. There's also lots of deals to make your purchase better.

Buy your furniture, get it the next day! Overnight shipping is one of the best reasons to shop online. There's no extra charge for the overnight shipping!

Another advantage of shopping online is the ability to compare. You can take a look at many different stores to find the best price. How much do you think you can save?

You're able to shop whenever it is right for you. This can be morning, noon, or night. Plus, you can take as long as you need to browse.

Better Sleep Is Calling Your Name

No matter who you are, sleep is important. Without it your body can feel tired and run down. It is recommended everyone get at least 8 hours.

But those 8 hours mean nothing if it isn't good sleep. Tossing and turning through the night has the same results. Your judgment and thinking can also be affected.

Start your search for beds and mattresses and change the way you sleep. Tomorrow could be a totally new experience for you! It will be one of the best decisions you can make!

Do Paint Companies Deceive You With Their Color Displays?

The average paint company is aware that their most effective advertising is actually done inside of the paint store. The paint color display a brand showcases is its best possible instrument to attract would-be customers to their product. If you wonder, how is it that a paint company can lure you to their brand using their color chart - and cause you to pick the wrong color - read on.

For many years, advertisers have learned to use bright, bold colors that focus the attention of would-be customers on their brand. The unmistakable power of a bright color is seen in logo, signs and every form of commercial marketing. This little tidbit is common knowledge, yet it often comes as a surprise to many that paint companies do use the very same tactics to pull your attention to their specific line of paint colors while you are perusing inside home improvement centers.

It can be said that paint companies are a bit sneakier than your traditional marketers. Paint brand companies are aware that when you are faced with a selection of paint displays (as is often the case in your home improvement stores), you are likely to first give your attention to the section of the display that is most appealing to the eye.

Obviously, the marketers of paint brands comprehend the human (or “animal”) attraction to bright colors. The marketers understand how important it is for their display to include bold, bright colors in their paint lines and to place them up front in their merchandising displays. This is the best way to grab the customer’s attention.

You may wonder, just how does a paint company accomplish this magic trick of color hypnosis on customers? It begins very simply with a sample card. Perhaps you have noticed how the brightest color card samples are the first row of the paint display.
You likely realize that this is not done by coincidence. Paint companies choose to play with a loaded deck (of sample cards)!
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the notion of stacking sample cards in a color wheel that will display the most beautiful colors as the most visible. The problem becomes apparent when you realize that many of those dramatic “striking” colors are essentially useless as actual wall paint colors! It’s almost comical that many of the colors a paint company places in its line would actually never look good when painted on any wall. The display colors are one hundred percent, used to pull your attention.

People are helpless in being attracted to bright colors; bright colors are much more eye-catching and therefore much more exciting to our brains. It’s a little sad that people who are paint beginners are much more likely to discover one of these bright, bold, saturated colors to be the most attractive and eventually end up choosing one of these as their new decorating color. It is a sad case when this happens because for most of the reasons just discussed, these types of colors look bad when painted on walls.

In fairness, when brighter colors are used to paint smaller surfaces, or as an accent color, on trim, or on a small wall, etc, these colors can be far less offensive. As a rule of thumb though, most bright colors in the display will on rare opportunity work.
In the case of the companies themselves, when problems like this occur, the companies don’t have anything to lose. If a person chooses a paint color that they are not satisfied with, the paint company is not responsible to refund the customer. There is not a paint brand in the country that will allow a customer to return paint once it has been purchased. If the customer is dissatisfied with the paint color they purchased, the customer will likely buy new paint!

There are confusing factors that make it difficult to choose the paint colors that will end up looking the best. Rather than enduring a world full of unhappy customers, the paint companies offer the market a basic solution to their issue of conflicting interests. The solution that has been found is the designer, or the “signature” brand. Most paint companies now offer a Signature brand to accommodate their primary brand.

For example, Valspar Paint produces paints branded as Eddie Bauer, Laura Ashley, Waverly, and others. These collections, or separate lines, each have their own specific color wheel displays and are typically available wherever the primary brand is sold. Other examples of this can be seen with Disney Paints that are made by Behr. Ralph Lauren and Martha Stewart are two examples as they were once made by Sherwin Williams.

Paint companies and retailers are savvy. They take opportunity of the popularity of these brands, in order to attract buyers to these paints; by doing so, they do not have to use overly obnoxious colors to grab your attention. If you take a look at the colors in these displays, you will notice that as a general rule, they are missing the bright tones. Most of the colors are neutralized. These are colors that are naturally more aesthetically pleasing.

Using a paint from a designer collection is a way to go it you are worried about ending up with an unattractive color. It may be the case that the range of colors offered by any of these brands may be limited and the whole line of hues is somewhat neutralized. This kind of display will give the smaller brand a more consistent look. But keep in mind that these signature paints are often pricier in spite of the fact that you can obtain very similar colors from the principal brand for much less.
